Stop Using Racist Village Seal!

The Whitesboro village seal depicts a white settler attacking a Native American. This image is unnecessarily offensive and demeaning. It also demonstrates a lack of appreciation for the real suffering and oppression that Native peoples face and have faced over our nation's history.

Though a minority of residents recently voted in an informal poll to keep the seal, it's important that the Village Board recognize that this kind of imagery has an impact beyond its own borders. Removing this seal and replacing it with an alternative image would demonstrate the basic respect that we owe to all groups, especially those who have been victims of violence and maltreatment.
