Introduce a tier system for drink driving offences - Low Range & High Range

With the current legal limit being 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath. The police won't prosecute until an offender is 40 micrograms or higher. I think that's completely unacceptable and it should be zero tolerance.

I would like the Transport Committee to introduce a 2 tier system so the Police will prosecute an offender who is between 35 - 40 micrograms

Tier 1: 35 - 40 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath should result in a 6 month ban and unlimited fine.

Tier 2: 40 or above micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath - Penalties already exist.
