Hold Steve Bannon in Contempt of Congress!

Steve Bannon has a habit of being on the wrong side of history. As a former editor of white supremacist website Breitbart, he went on to become a disgraced former White House Chief Strategist. Now, he is snubbing his nose at Congress and our rule of law by refusing to answer questions about the Trump Campaign's possible collusion with Russia during the 2016 Presidential Election.

We all know Bannon has the insider gossip on what went on inside the Trump electoral campaign and the White House. That's why members of Congress on the U.S. House Intelligence Committee have tried to question Bannon three times, but each time, he has refused. After he refused to answer questions in January, lawmakers became so frustrated that they issued a subpoena compelling Bannon to testify this February.

But even that didn't seem to phase Bannon at all. First he told members of Congress that he could only answer 25 questions that had been pre-approved by the White House. Then, when they asked him the questions he said he could answer, he simply responded "No" to everything, without elaborating.

A subpoena issued by Congress is a big, serious deal — when a person is subpoenaed, they are commanded to appear before lawmakers and answer questions. It is a criminal offense to not comply. This level of disrespect for our rule of law and and our democracy is unacceptable.

It's time for Congress to show Bannon that they're not messing around, and that they're taking this investigation seriously. Lawmakers must set an example to demonstrate that we will not tolerate this type of disrespect for democratic separation of powers. They must hold Bannon in Contempt of Congress now!
