The situation of stray dogs in Romania is unbearable: Hunger and thirst, heat and cold, illness and injuries, indifference and cruelty shape their lives. But it doesn’t stop there – while well-organised, comprehensive spay & neuter programmes would effectively scale down their populations and help solve the related problems in a humane way, the dogs become the object of unscrupulous deals between the dog-catcher mafia and a corrupt state.
Stefanie Fink, dedicated journalist and animal welfare campaigner, has been working for months to realise an eye-opening documentary on this situation – and now cannot find any TV-station to broadcast her film: “Doesn’t fit our format”, “We just had something similar on air”, “We can’t expose our audience to anything like that”.
Signing this petition, I urge you to come up to your education and information mandate by broadcasting this documentary at prime time, so as to make the general public aware of this reality. Only this way, public pressure can be built up to make the EU intervene and eventually change this situation that violates applicable European animal welfare laws!
