If Bullfighting is Still Legal, Animal Abuse is Still Legal.

  • mottagare: French Parliament

Recently, France took the crucial step of banning wild circus animals and mink farms, both terrible industries known for their violent abuse of animals. But France did nothing to stop bullfighting, an equally horrendous form of animal abuse. Why should bullfighting be exempt from these essential new anti-cruelty laws, if we know it is one of the most violent and harmful animal sports of all?

Tell the French Parliament: fully protect animal welfare! Ban bullfighting now!

This summer the Société Protectrice des Animaux (SPA) tried to stand up against bullfighting in court, but instead of gaining an important victory and beginning to levy fines against bullfighting perpetrators, the SPA was required to pay €3,000 for bringing the case to trial at all! The court argued that bullfighting is simply "too popular" to be banned in France, which is neither an adequate excuse nor true. In recent years, the tide has turned against bullfighting not only in France, but in many countries around the world. A 2018 poll showed that just under three quarters of French civilians disapproved of bullfights when they resulted in animals' deaths. Every year, approximately 250,000 bulls are brutally killed in bullfights.

France has taken important steps towards protecting animals in recent years, but there is no excuse for the government to continue allow a sport as violent and damaging to bulls as bullfighting. If bullfighting is still legal, animal abuse is still legal. Sign now to demand that the French Parliament take action and ban bullfighting today!
