PLEASE JOIN ME IN THANKING A REPUBLICAN STATE SENATOR FOR CROSSING THE AISLE TO JOIN IN THE FIGHT FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY!
Today was an historic day for bipartisanship in the fight for equality for all. The Minnesota State Senate introduced a marriage equality bill, with support from both sides of the aisle.
Senator Branden Petersen, a Republican with a strong conservative voting record from District 35, just north of the Twin Cities, co-sponsored the bill - a surprise to many, as he has is historically voted very conservatively during his tenure.
He has already been threatened by NOM, and from Minnesotans for Marriage, who sent out a horrible fear mongering email, but Senator Petersen has stated it will not effect his support of the bill.
"Regardless of the amount, whether it's $500,000 or $50 million, my vote is not going to bought either way. I'm going to do what's right. If they want to throw away $500,000, then that's their decision."
I personally emailed Senator Petersen, as I grew up just south of his district, and much to my delight and surprise, I received a personal thank you for my support. He pledged again that he will not be bought or intimidated.
Please join me in thanking Senator Petersen for his co-sponsorship, and pledge to continue to support him and other Republicans who vote for equal rights for all.
With the hatred and fear mongering already started, we need to support Senator Peterson and other Republicans like him who are willing to stand up to NOM and other anti-gay marriage groups.
THANK YOU!
Dear Senator Petersen,
We would like to sincerely thank you for your co-sponsorship of legislation to create marriage equality in Minnesota. Your bravery and staunch stance against the groups trying to intimidate you is truly inspiring. We hope that your sponsorship will influence the public debate on marriage equality, and more of your peers will join you in supporting marriage equality for everyone.
Please remember when the attacks come that there are people who support you, and please continue to fight for equality for all in Minnesota and around the country!
