Stop Drug Abuse and Underage Drinking!
You may believe that underage drinking is a victimless crime, but the decision to drink while underage and to abuse drugs effects people other than you. Did you know that 95% of all crimes that are committed on a college campus is alcohol-related? Did you also know that underage drinking is a leading contributor of injuries that result in death?
Underage drinking is a currently very popular among today's teenagers. Nearly 75% of all teenagers will have consumed a large amount of alcohol before the end of high school. 37% of teenagers will have consumed alcohol by 8th grade. Every year about 5,000 people under the age of 21, die due to injuries the sustained from a drinking-related incident. You may think that it is only your decision to make, but that decision to drink before you reach the age of responsibility effects people other than you.
Drug abuse is very much the same way. 60% of all teenagers admitted that drugs were sold, made, or used at their high school. In 2008, 1.9 million people between the ages of 12-17 abused prescription drugs. Drug use often results in unplanned pregnancy, violent crimes, sexual assault, underage drinking, and dropping out of school.
When you sign this petition, you are promising yourself and your family that you will never put them or yourself in jeopardy by taking the risk of underage drinking and substance abuse.
Will you help your communities, friends, and loved ones by helping stop drug use and underage drinking? Will you help the victims of the violent crimes that these irresponsible actions cause before they are committed?
We, the undersigned, promise our families and ourselves that we will take care of our bodies and make responsible decisions regarding drug use and underage drinking. No matter what we have done in the past, we are making the decision to not drink or abuse drugs now. We love our families, and will never put them or ourselves at risk by making the choice to abuse drugs or drink irresponsibly. We will take every opportunity to discourage drug use and underage drinking among our community. We will not drink while underage, and we will not abuse drugs.
