A beloved communally-owned albino peacock, "Sugar," in Pasadena is recovering after a shocking attack. Video showed a man working for the U.S. Postal Service violently targeting the beautiful bird, first by throwing rocks at Sugar several times, and then by grabbing a stick and hitting him.

When a veterinarian assessed Sugar, they found multiple small wounds on the rare white peacock, as well as areas filled with swelling. However, X-rays luckily revealed that he hadn't suffered any broken bones.

The community was outraged over this attack. One resident said: "He's been here for several years, and the entire neighborhood knows him. He wanders the streets around here, and everybody knows him and loves him, and we're so sad to see what happened to him."

Apparently, Sugar is non-aggressive and harmless. Even the video of the postal worker's attack shows the animal simply showing curiosity, without causing anyone any hurt or danger.

Sugar is now recovering at a private ranch in Northern California, where he appears to be healing well. Still, the community remains heartbroken over the fact that someone could show cruelty to such a peaceful, beloved community animal.
