Speak up for Syria

Civilians in Aleppo are suffering terribly. They live in constant danger of being killed or maimed by barrel bombs. Hospitals have also been targets for bombs so that there are no longer enough medical facilities to treat all casualties and many of the injured are just left to die. After an aerial attack, parents frequently arrive at the hospital to find their children dead or seriously injured. A parent was heard to cry out to the bombers in anguish at his child's funeral; 'a curse on your children and your children's children'.

We, the undersigned, hear the anguished cries of the Syrian people. We petition our government to broker an agreement to create humanitarian corridors and safe havens for the civilians in Syria. Those who wish to leave an area of conflict could be escorted to a place of safety; also, the UN could safely deliver humanitarian aid and evacuate casualties.

We can no longer close our eyes and ears to this problem; urgent and effective action must be taken.
