Pass Dunkin's Law to Hold Pet Care Facilities Accountable

  • af: Eric - I Love Every Dog
  • mottagare: U.S. House Committee on Agriculture (chair and members), with Representative James Gallagher

Dunkin, a 2-year-old Bernese mountain dog, died in August. His owners, Madeline White and Andrew Fedyk, left him at a Los Angeles dog training and boarding business for four weeks while they traveled with their newborn daughter. Mr. Fedyk says they were told Dunkin died of heatstroke about 36 hours after drop-off and was never taken to a vet. The business had not responded to Newsweek when that story ran.

Now Representative James Gallagher of California has introduced Dunkin's Law, a federal bill that would amend the Animal Welfare Act to protect companion animals held or cared for at certain facilities. It would hold commercial care facilities accountable and extend similar standards to rescues and shelters.

Right now, I believe too many pet owners find that the person they trusted with their dog faces little consequence when something goes wrong. I am asking the House Committee on Agriculture to hold a hearing on Dunkin's Law, and Representative Gallagher to keep building bipartisan support for it.
