Ban Pesticides Killing Birds, Bees and Butterflies
The Congressional staff recently met to discuss the the toxic effects of neonicotinoid pesticides (NNI) on our pollinators- birds, bees, and butterflies. EPA plans to complete their review of these pesticides by 2018, and many specialists feel it will be too late to recover from the current adverse effects being documented.
One of the largest concerns in the report from toxicologist Pierre Mineau of Canada was the acute, chronic, and reproductive toxicity of seed treated with the pesticides and ingested by birds.
The devistating impact of these inseciticides on bees and butterflies was futher discussed byScott Hoffman Black of the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation and member of the IUCN Butterfly Specialist Group, and Steve Ellis, commercial beekeeper with Old Mill Honey Company- and Colony Collapse Disorder.
We ask that the Environmental Protection Agency ban these neonicotinoid pesticides (NNI) immediately and stop the United States Department of Agriculture from using them futher. There have been enough massive die-offs of all pollinators to stop them now- not in 2018.
