Keep Toxic Chemicals Out of Our Kids' Toys
When we shop for toys and clothes for our kids, we want to make sure that we're not exposing them to any potentially harmful chemicals. So it's truly alarming that a watchdog group in Washington recently identified over 5000 children's products that contained toxins or carcinogens, including goods manufactured by Gymboree.
The study didn't include specifics about the chemicals in Gymboree toys and clothing. But the Washington State's Children's Safe Products Act of 2008 requires companies to report the presence of toxic chemicals in their products -- and Gymboree was on the list.
This means that our kids could conceivably be exposed to one or more of the chemicals on Washington State's list of 66 Chemicals of High Concern to Children, which include toxic metals, hormone-disrupting chemicals, and various carcinogens.
Gymboree needs to show they're serious about keeping kids safe. Tell them to get toxic chemicals out of their products today!
I am writing to express my concern with the recent reports by the Washington Toxics Coalition, which named Gymboree as one of the companies that manufactured children's products containing potentially toxic chemicals.
Although the report did not specifically name which chemicals Gymboree products contained, I am deeply troubled that any of their products could be made with one of the chemicals on Washington State's list of 66 Chemicals of High Concern to Children. Our kids shouldn't be exposed to toxic metals, carcinogens, or hormone-disrupting compounds in the first place, let alone from a company we trust.
I am writing to demand that you show your commitment to kids' safety and remove any toxic chemicals from your products immediately.
