Keep our Stonington school workers local!

Workers for the town of Stonington food service are fighting for their jobs as town goes out to bid for management team options. Cafeteria employees who have put their own families through the school system and lived here in Stonington for years could be out of a job come mid-2016 if a management team is hired and brought in to take on the role of running food service.

Stonington went out to bid last week looking at proposal packages from both management companies and our current workers. What we say is keep this small town a small town -- keep our workers local. Our current employees are local people who have grown up here and know the students and have come to love seeing each of them come through each day and watching them grow up as if they were their own children. Local workers are looking for the help and support of both parents and other Stonington residents to help them keep their jobs.

As a food service worker myself, I know these kids by name and I enjoy coming in each day to see them and watch them grow up. These kids come to the kitchen with a comfort of knowing us and knowing that we know what they want each day and will greet them each morning with a friendly face and a warm welcome.

If you'd like to help and show your support, please, take the time to contact those in charge, Bill King and Gary Shettle and let them know you support us!
