Tell Canadian Government Not to Restrict Health Research Grants

The Canadian Institute of Health Research's Governing Council has recently voted to change the procedures for scientists seeking health research grants.  Rather than simply applying for grants, scientists must now first raise funds from external resources that would match the grant amount.

There are a number of problems with this change.  First of all, raising funds is time consuming and the studies that have success with raising funds may not be the most necessary.  Also, areas in health research where there are fewer researchers, such as aboriginal health, will be at a disadvantage.

Tell the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to take science seriously and not make things all about money!
