Alcohol abuse increases the strain on a marriage and the likelihood that it will end in divorce.  Divorcees are three times more likely to have a problem with alcohol abuse than those who are married.  Alcohol abuse also leads to a breakdown of communication within the marriage, and frequently leads to physical abuse.
