Republicans Should Be Against Political Corruption Too - Right, Mitch McConnell?

  • af: Kevin Mathews

The Democrats have kicked off their majority in the House of Representatives by introducing the For the People Act, which includes extensive but surprisingly reasonable reforms for

To quickly rattle off some of the improvements:

  • Giving government ethics office power to enforce rules
  • Setting impartial rules for drawing legislative districts
  • Requiring tax returns for presidential candidates
  • Keeping tabs on inauguration spending
  • Expanding political ad disclosure rules
  • Improving voting access and security

Mitigating political corruption is a wildly popular amongst voters of all affiliation, who support this sort of legislation. That's why we're encouraging Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to demonstrate bipartisanship by whipping the votes to improve democracy with some common sense fixes.

It's popular, it's practical, and it's the right thing to do. What do you say, McConnell? Will you help to make stopping poitical corruption a truly bipartisan issue for the good of the country? And hat does it say about Republicans if they refuse to get behind this?
