DA Who Won't Prosecute Same-Sex Domestic Violence Must Resign

Craig Northcott, the district attorney for Coffee County, TN, said that because of his "Christian" perspective on LGBTQ people, he is unwilling to prosecute same-sex domestic violence cases.

By Northcott's faulty logic, domestic violence is meant to protect the sanctity of marriage, and since gay people shouldn't be married, there's nothing to protect.

In reality, domestic violence laws apply to family members, roommates and significant others in addition to spouses, but that's kind of beside the point. The idea that Northcott is deciding what and how to prosecute based on his own religion/homophobia is extremely troublesome.

To make matters worse, Northcott already recently faced controversy when he said Muslims aren't protected by the Constitution. If he is unwilling to follow the law and stand up for the rights of all people - gays and Muslims alike - he is entirely unfit for a job as important as his.

Northcott, we ask you to resign immediately and allow someone who will look out for all Tennesseeans to take over as DA.
