Update on this petition:
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has confirmed an extension of Alfonso's stay until October 1st. Thank you all profoundly for helping to shift this situation. We will continue to gather signatures in order to demonstrate our care and support for Alfonso and his family. We believe that Senator Crapo gave support to our efforts and we would greatly appreciate it if you could contact his offices to thank him for his help. As we gather more information there may be more people to thank, and more actions to be taken. You all are a caring community, as your actions have demonstrated.
This petition is in support of Alfonso Chanco and his family.
Alfonso has been a valuable member of the Wood River community for seventeen years. He has contributed significantly to the Wood River economy by paying taxes through two jobs and eighty hour work weeks.
He is a wonderful husband and father. One of his children is a child with disabilities who has ongoing treatments and who is permanently in a wheelchair. His family deserves to have their father there to care for them. Without his livelihood they may lose their home and means of survival.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement, (ICE), has made the decision that they will not let Alfonso stay in the United States past June 2, 2018, even though there is a Motion to reopen his immigration case still pending in the Salt Lake City Immigration Court.
We are asking Congressman Mike Simpson and Senator Mike Crapo to intervene on Alfonso's behalf. Please ask Immigration and Customs Enforcement to extend Alfonso's stay of removal for six months or more while his Motion to reopen is pending in immigration court.
Thank you for your kind consideration of this urgent issue.
