Stand Your Ground Law Should Be Repealed

  • af: N/A
  • mottagare: Stand Your Ground Law

This bill that prosecutors, gun-control advocates and other critics called  shoot-first law and, more bluntly, a license to kill and go free.

It seems as if the critics were right concerning this controversial bill.

Yet more than a dozen other states followed suit.

The Trayvon Martin case offers an excellent illustration of why they all should repeal this bill.

The Stand Your Ground Law result in Florida? Five years after the law went into effect, claims of justifiable homicides in Florida got 3 times worse, from just over 30 to more than 100 in 2010. The Stand-Your-Ground defense was used in 93 murder cases involving 65 murders during that period, and in almost every one of them it worked; letting murderers go free.

At least 14 states have revised their laws to the stand your ground law; Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee and Texas. I have also read 20 states have the law.

This law must be repealed before more innocent people are killed.
