The film reigned in $781 million at the box office globally, making it a record breaker as the highest-grossing movie directed by a woman ever.

And it's super feminist to boot. (Spoilers!) A female army takes on a male army and wins. A. female superhero stands up to authoritarian political figures. Wonder Woman saves the lives of countless individuals and eventually, all of humankind.

No director of a comic book film has ever been nominated, and only men have ruled this category in the years since and before Kathryn Bigelow won the Oscar for ‘The Hurt Locker’ in 2010.

In 2010, the Academy expanded its best picture category from five to 10 movies. We think Wonder Woman deserves a shot for its cinematic artistry and powerful message that will surely resonate positively for years to come.
