Legalize Cell Phone and Wi-Fi Jammers in Prisons and Grade Schools

It is illegal to use either cell phone jammers or wi-fi jammers in the United States. This is due to an old law that was created to prevent the blockage of radio broadcasts, before cell phones or wi-fi existed. The FCC claims that jammers present a safety risk in the event that someone needs to call 911. However, that risk could be eliminated simply by requiring that a reasonable number of wired telephones are available throughout the building before they could get a permit to use a jammer. Possibly other technical requirements, depending on the location.

We all know how disruptive cell phone and smart phones are when students use them during class. Even when not talking, they can use them to get on the Internet, or send text messages. Students can use them to cheat on tests. Some schools have used cell phone jammers with tremendous success, before being forced to remove them by the FCC. Instead, the law should require that wired telephones be available, possibly on teacher's desks.

A single prison confiscates thousands of cell phones a year. This problem could be completely eliminated with a cell phone jammer.
