Philip Morris just became anti-smoking, except in developing countries

  • mottagare: Philip Morris International
Philip Morris, makers of Marlboro, is making a huge splash in the media by saying they are quitting smoking. They say they want to invest in things like e-cigarettes instead and that they are going to stop selling cigarettes. The catch? It's only in the UK. If they really are so anti-smoking now, they would stop selling cigarettes in all 180 markets they currently sell in.

Sign now to tell Philip Morris to stop selling cigarettes everywhere, period.

Right now Philip Morris is aggressively marketing to low and middle income markets and fight policies that aim to educate and reduce smoking. So this new campaign comes off as more than a little hypocritical.

If this is just a public relations campaign to try to make people think they are do-gooders, we have to call them out on it. However, if they really want to help decrease the damage they've done in propagating the appeal of smoking worldwide, then they should stop selling cigarettes everywhere.

It's their choice. Do they really want to help world health or not? Let's find out.
