Congress: Pass the Bill to Ban Employers from Asking about Salary History

Three Democratic U.S. representatives are preparing to propose a bill that would deny employers the ability to ask job applicants for their salary histories.

It may seem like an innocent question, but when employers use past pay to determine their new pay offer, it thwarts upward mobility. Further, it serves to perpetuate the wage gap. A company that factors in previous discriminatory pay.

We support Representatives Rosa DeLauro, Eleanor Holmes Norton and Jerrold Nadler for their proposed bill to end salary history questions, and urge the rest of Congress to pass the legislation and make it a law.
