Demand that the White House sidewalk remain open to the public

The Secret Service has announced that the sidewalk south of the White House will be closed to the public permanently, for security reasons. This area offers a magnificent view of the White House and has served for many years as a symbol of the public's access to their president. This sidewalk has been the site of protests and victory celebrations, mourning and rejoicing, and most of all is a hallowed pubic space. The Secret Service can surely find other ways to enhance security (a higher fence, a double fence with the inner fence electrified, etc.). As an American citizen, I feel that something has been stolen from me, even though I have never actually stood on this sidewalk, and at my age I am not likely to do so in the future.
