Chesapeake, VA Residents against Ida Gardens Rezoning Application R(C) 14-31

This petition is seeking signatures from Chesapeake residents who are opposed to rezoning the back 3.17 acre portion of two parcels totaling 7 acres, located at 809 and 817 Bells Mill Rd, Chesapeake, VA. Rezoning Application R(C) 14-31 seeks to rezone the back portions from M-1 (Light Industrial) to R-10s (Residential / Single Family Dwellings).

This back portion includes an Army Corps of Engineers delineated wetland and is the lowest elevation for surrounding residential properties. It prevents flooding during severe storms and maintains water quality as described in the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area (CBPA) Ordinance of the Chesapeake City Code.

Rezoning would negatively impact drainage, traffic, schools and property values for surrounding neighborhoods. Lying within the CBPA Resource Management Area (RMA), this portion should be rezoned C-1 (Conservation).
