Demand that insurance companies cover treatment for those suffering from Mitochondrial Disease

The Joint Committee of Fiinance Services in the Massachusetts Legislature have requested an extension on H977 which is an act providing the care and treatment for persons suffering with mitochondrial disease. If passed in July this bill would mandate that insurance companies  in Massachusetts cover the cost of the Mito Cocktail.  The Mito Cocktail is the only treatment for mitochondrial disease.  It helps to improve the symptoms and slows the progression of the disease.

We need to encourage the joint committee members to pass the bill out of committee in time in order for a vote by the full Legislature prior to the end of session July 31.  Mitochondrial Disease is a serious illness and without insurance coverage, many patients including children are denied the treatment they so badly need.  The coverage of this serious illness increases insurance premiums as little as 2-14 cents a month.
