New Hampshire, Don't Enable Domestic Violence!

One in four women will suffer from domestic violence in their lifetimes. But in New Hampshire, lawmakers are making it even easier for abusers to victimize their intimate partners. House Bill 1581 will effectively prevent police from arresting anyone for spouse battery unless the police saw the assault with their own eyes. A second bill, HB 1608, makes it easier for repeat abusers to violate their restraining orders.

Domestic violence activist Amanda Grady says the proposed bills will set New Hampshire back to the 1970s and "will likely result in further injuries and could possibly have lethal consequences for victims and their children."

And all this in a state where 38 percent of last year's homicides were domestic-violence related and women are almost always the victims. Tell New Hampshire law makers not to repeal essential domestic violence laws!
We the undersigned are outraged by your concerted efforts to make women even more vulnerable to violence than they are currently. It's not as if New Hampshire has no published crime statistics. Those statistics show that 38 percent of last year's homicides were fueled by domestic violence, and women are the usual victims. Please strike down House Bills 1581 and 1608 and fund Planned Parenthood which is the only affordable health care available to many of your state's women.
