Neighbors in a South Carolina community became worried when they noticed a woman collecting more and more animals - and then realizing she'd simply departed and left all the animals behind, alone, in her home.

Even worse, the house was emanating a foul odor that passersby could notice from outside, even from just standing near the driveway.

When authorities arrived to investigate the situation, they first looked inside the home from the windows. Already, they could see a room filled with cages upon cages upon cages. Alongside the cages were some living animals, but also many dead pets.

Once inside, they discovered a "deplorable" situation that was not habitable. Decaying animals littered the property. However, 22 of the pets, including dogs, were still alive. The woman later admitted to authorities that she had collected some of the animals by picking up strays from outside - and she confessed that some of the animals might have been other families' missing pets.

Authorities rescued the surviving animals and have since adopted them out to loving, responsible homes. They have also charged the woman with 16 counts of felony animal cruelty.

But the most important thing is to keep her away from all animals in the future. Sign the petition to ensure that authorities ban her from animal ownership, as well as from working with or living with pets ever again!
