National Register of Animal Abusers

Animal abuse is a serious problem; so much so that now it is a federal crime in the United States to abuse animals. However, many animal abusers are not seriously prosecuted in local areas. There needs to be a minimum fine and jail time that is more than a slap on the wrist. In addition, animal abusers should never be allowed to own an animal again. The federal government needs to start a register of convicted animal abusers and alert people in neighborhoods when someone that abuses animal moves in— just like happens with sex offenders. Research shows that people who abuse animals are significantly more likely to abuse people and go on to inflict serious harm.
