The United States of America is in crisis.
Today, the American house is divided against itself. The childish belief that skin color constitutes identity has gone unchallenged. Americans abhor racism and bigotry, but they remain tied to shallow differences, unable to imagine a united future.
Our great nation was founded on a dream of unity. Great Americans of every color and creed have fought and died for this vision. Despite the centuries of conflict and tragedy, we hold one truth to be self-evident: all people are created equal. Living this truth is what it means to be American. No mere physical distinction is greater than the American birthright. No distant ancestry has greater weight than the American identity.
If you were born on American soil or chose to make this country your home, you are ethnically American. This grand identity supersedes all former ties to Europe, Africa, or Asia. You are not black, white, brown, or yellow. You are American first.
Cultural traditions from other peoples are welcome as part of the American tapestry, and connections to ancestral countries should be celebrated — but the United States of America is the land your children will inherit, and its people is your people.
The birthright is yours.
If Americans fail to unite as one American ethnicity, the dream will die. Hatred and violence will cover the nation like a flood. Absurd categories of skin color or distant ancestry will drive us apart and set us at each other's throats.
Claim your birthright. In so doing, you pledge allegiance not to a flag, or to the republic, but to the people — your people — for whom the flag flies and the republic labors.
