Tell Sarvey Wildlife Center to Stop Feeding Live Baby Chicks to Their Raptors

Sarvey Wildlife Center in Arlington, Washington feeds live week old baby chicks to rehabbing owls to test their ability to catch live prey prior to release.  They claim, erroneously, that a Barred owl's diet in the wild consists mainly of baby ducks -- and that baby chicks are a substitution for using baby ducks -- when in fact the owl's diet in the wild consists mainly of rodents.

Most raptor rehab centers use only brown lab mice for testing hunting skills.  The use of live baby chicks that should still be under a brooder lamp is cruel, inhumane and unnecessary.

The UK as well as other enlightened countries has declared it illegal to use live vertebrates as food for other animals.  Appropriate frozen small rodents and fowl are readily available for feed -- the use of live baby chicks is innapropriate and inhumane.

Please tell them to stop now and forever.
