Tell LUSH Cosmetics: Don't Glorify Elephant Poaching!

Lush Cosmetics UK, a self-proclaimed cruelty-free company, is selling a perfume called "Smugglers Soul" that features a portrait of notorious elephant poacher Veerappan. The product description states, "The Smugglers Soul is deep, dangerous and intoxicating, join us on our journey to the roots of sandalwood and let it enrapture your heart." They also offer a graphic novel called "On the Trail of Sandalwood Smugglers" with a cover depicting Veerappan holding a rifle, and tins of "Veerappan Moustache Wax."

Veerappan made a name for himself smuggling sandalwood and ivory. In his lifetime, he killed 1,000 elephants and 138 people, including 32 policemen who stood in the way of his crimes. Thanks to his influence and "legend," poaching and smuggling have increased in his territory following his death.

Now, LUSH Cosmetics is glorifying the figure, describing him as romantic, soulful and intoxicating. Given their vocal stance against animal testing, it seems hypocritical to use a notorious poacher's likeness to sell their products. Please sign the petition to urge LUSH Cosmetics to drop all references to Veerappan in their line of products!

We, the undersigned, are concerned with your use of notorious elephant poacher Veerappan's name and likeness in your products.

As you know, your company is selling a perfume called "Smugglers Soul" that features a portrait of Veerappan. The product description states, "The Smugglers Soul is deep, dangerous and intoxicating, join us on our journey to the roots of sandalwood and let it enrapture your heart." You also offer a graphic novel called "On the Trail of Sandalwood Smugglers" with a cover depicting Veerappan holding a rifle, and tins of "Veerappan Moustache Wax."

We feel that your use of Veerappan's name and likeness in a positive, attractive context is out of line. Given your vocal stance against animal testing, it seems hypocritical to use a notorious poacher's likeness to sell your products. We respectfully urge you to drop all references to Veerappan in their line of products. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
