Protect NJ Lives: Prioritize Funding for Diabetes Prevention and Care

To: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services & Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

We, the undersigned, urge our national health leaders to take immediate and decisive action to combat the growing diabetes and obesity crisis in New Jersey.

The numbers speak for themselves: 31% of children in our state are overweight, setting the stage for long-term health challenges like type 2 diabetes. An estimated 2.4 million adults are prediabetic—and 80% don't even know it. Meanwhile, 700,000 New Jersey adults—1 in 10—are already living with diabetes.

These aren't just statistics—they represent our neighbors, our families, and our future. This is more than a public health issue—it's a crisis impacting every corner of our state.

People living with diabetes need real support—now. From education and early detection to affordable care and long-term management, this fight requires commitment and investment at every level.

That's why we're urging you to protect and expand federal funding for diabetes prevention, treatment, and education. Every New Jerseyan deserves access to the tools and care they need to stay healthy—no matter their age, income, or zip code.

Lives are on the line. Futures are at stake.

We must not allow this disease to continue robbing people of their health and hope.

We urge you to take bold steps today—because the health of tomorrow depends on what we do now.
