Tell Retailer Target to Install Autism-Friendly Checkout Lanes!

Going through a checkout lane as an autistic child can be very difficult, as the sensory input can be immensely overwhelming.

As such, a Pennsylvania-based ShopRite supermarket store has, in a first, installed a checkout aisle specifically designed for autistic individuals. In place of candy and gum, there are instead items like small puzzles, stress balls and Play-Doh. The cashier who works the lane is also educated on autism and dedicated to servicing customers on the autistic spectrum.

According to the CDC, 1 in 68 American children are autistic to some degree; this is not a small group by any measure.

If you agree that Target should mandate autistic-friendly checkout lanes in all of its stores, please add your name to this petition!
