Tell Baptist Church: Let Black Couples Marry!

Racism is alive and well at First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs, Mississippi where Charles and Te'Andrea Wilson were told they could not be married after all--the day before the wedding. They had regularly attended the church. They had reserved the church for their wedding and sent out invitations.

But church members decided they didn't want the couple married there. And the only reason they gave was that Charles and Te'Andrea are black. The Crystal Springs congregation even threatened their pastor with the loss of his job if he went ahead with the ceremony.

You might hope that 21st century racists would at least be ashamed to own up to their ideologies in public. But such is not the case. Tell First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs that God does not see color!

We the undersigned are appalled that you refused to let Charles and Te'Andrea Wilson get married in your church.

The couple had regularly attended your church, though they were not yet members. They had booked the church for their wedding and printed up invitations with the date and church on them. At no point in this process did you tell them they were unwelcome. No, it appears you waited until the day before the wedding to deny them the right to marry. You've also threatened your pastor with job loss if he declines to participate in your racist agenda.

You should really be ashamed. Welcome people of all ethnicities into your church. God does not see color!
