Save the 1/2 Car

As a joke, long-time resident and former mayor of Edgerton Ray Braun cut a car in half. He drove it in the local parade for several years, and his wife Jo painted and maintained signs for it. One of the signs — the one that has stayed for over a decade — reads "Divorced: She got 1/2."

The Braun family has been a large part of the Edgerton town history for decades, and been integral in making it what it is today. While the 1/2 car started out as a joke, it has become an icon.

The landmark has been photographed thousands of times by people passing through — including celebrities. Celebrities have also featured the 1/2 car on Twitter, blogs, etc. For a small town, it's a small, non-offensive landmark to be known for. Many people don't know where Edgerton is, but they do recognize the 1/2 car.

Now, a member of the city council has decided this landmark needs to go. He says it's an eyesore and violates city code.

While many residents agree, many more want the 1/2 car to stay. Please sign and help save this icon of Edgerton, KS. and make this an official landmark.

Thank you for your support.

The city council unanimously voted that the vehicle must go. The property owner wants to keep it in the town and has offered to donate it to the city’s museum...which is not large enough. A Go Fund Me has been created to support the moving of the car and giving it a place of honor. If all fails and the car does not get to stay, all the money raised will go to the Edgerton museum. Please help if you are able - no amount too small.
