The Timpany center ( located at 730 Empey Way in San jose , Ca) is at risk of being shut down at the start of 2020 without YOUR support. Countless seniors depend on this centers pool for regular access to exercise due to its ADA accessible design, which includes a ramp for wheelchairs and an accessible hot tub. For many of our elderly in the community gyms are NOT an option due to limited or NO age appropriate classes, no wheelchair/ mobility challenged access, and cost. This pool is CRUCIAL for so many and needs letters to the District Representatives along with this petition to hope to be saved.
This center is currently operated by San Jose State Universities Kinesiology department and caters to seniors and those with physical rehabilitation needs who could benefit from warm water excercise. Per their website (at http://www.sjsu.edu/timpany/programs/aqua-fitness/index.html)
"Warm-water exercise has substantial benefits such as increased blood flow and flexibility. Individuals looking to relieve back and arthritic pain, reduce stress, and strengthen and increase their general fitness can find a class specific to their needs at the Timpany Center. The indoor pool is heated year round to 92 degrees and features a zero foot entry ramp and progressive steps"
According to one user " I have tried every type of therapy, but nothing has helped more than this therapuetic pool. I call it Holy water!"
Silicon Valley is full of an aging population whose resources, options for specialized activities and care are FAST DIMINISHING to make way for tech company buyouts or more overpriced condominiums.
DON'T LET THIS FACILITY CLOSE TO LEAVE THOSE WHO DEPEND ON IT WITHOUT OTHER OPTIONS.
