No Idling Around The School Zones of Chicago

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the rest of the city council have rejected every single effort of trying to make the school zones of Chicago safe for us to breathe in. As a current freshman in high school, I have been working on trying to establish limited-idling zones all over the school zones of Chicago. I have spent more than two years trying to introduce the limited-idling ordinance I have created. Despite my strong efforts to make a difference, nobody seems to be taking me seriously. Rahm Emanuel and his staff have rejected my efforts numerous times. Getting signatures from this petition is my only hope to get my ordinance introduced to the city council.
People need to be aware that idling is a terrible habit that has to stop. Not only is it a threat to the environment, but our health as well. It releases harmful emissions that spread into the air and cause serious health problems. Kids are especially sensitive to the outcomes of idling, as they respond differently than adults to car exhaust. It is well known that kids are most likely to be found around school zones, and this ordinance will finally give them a chance to breathe clean air.
