Resort Fees R BS

Many/most large hotels with amenities have adopted a back-end way to stick it to their customers. They begin by charging $200-$1000 per night for a room and then, after you check out and get back home, you find an exorbitant charge that you racked up by staying at the "resort". I suppose the fees are for amenities, many of which most people don't use (pool, gym, elevators, escalators, etc.) Many times they tell you about the resort fee as you're checking in, when you're already at the desk with no where else to go, or it's in the fine print somewhere. Unfortunately, I've found that it's usually $20-$100 per night, which obviously increases your over-all costs for a hotel stay. Why don't they just put the "resort fee" in the price of the advertised nights stay, so it's not so hidden and unexpected when a person checks out? I don't remember paying "resort fees" ten years ago. Let's politely ask these big resorts to include all costs in their up-front price! Let's stop getting nickled and dimed every time we want to go on vacation with checked bag fees and resort fees that make it almost too expensive to travel.
