US Military: Stop Experimenting on us Online!

The US military has been doing research on social media users, activists in particular, especially those involved in the Occupy movement. This research is pretty invasive since users have no idea they're being watched! Tell the military to stop experimenting on activists and social media users!

Research funded directly or indirectly by the US Department of Defense’s military research department, known as Darpa, involved users of some of the internet’s largest destinations: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Kickstarter, for studies of social connections and how messages spread.

Several DoD-funded studies messaged participants in order to track and study how they responded. On its site, Darpa states “Through the program, Darpa seeks to develop tools to support the efforts of human operators to counter misinformation or deception campaigns with truthful information."

Facebook, the world’s biggest social networking site, has apologized for the study, which involved secret psychological tests on nearly 700,000 users in 2012. Knowledge of the study prompted outrage from users and experts alike, being “poorly communicated” to the public.

Tell the DoD that manipulating and studying social media users is unwelcome and should be stopped.

Dear Sir,

We the undersigned ask that the DoD stop manipulating and studying social media users.
