NO ON CA ASSEMBLY BILL 1512

In January 2014, Assemblyman Mark Stone (D-Monterey), with sponsorship from the Sheriff’s Department, introduced AB 1512 which calls for a 5-year extension of an existing measure to transfer County Jail inmates to other counties in order to ease overcrowding.  We concerned residents of Monterey County oppose this bill, believing that the transfer of inmates inflicts undue hardship on inmates and their families by hindering access to their attorneys, separating family members, and interfering with in-progress rehabilitative processes.

Instead of adopting AB 1512 , we concerned citizens urge our leaders to act now to support long-term solutions to jail overcrowding, such as implementing split-sentencing, lowering the bail schedule, and expanding rehabilitation services, especially for drug-related crimes.
