Over the last decade the people of Bishop Auckland have seen a number of big name shops leave their high street.
Some of which were Woolworths, Mothercare, Argos, Home Bargains, Dorothy Perkins and Millets to name just a few.
Our town is like many around the UK that have suffered as a result of high street shops closing, possibly due to a rise in out of town retail parks and online shopping.
The people in our town would love to see the high street thrive again and be the bustling centre of the community it once was.
I've heard many times over the last few years that the locals would welcome the opening of a Primark store in Newgate Street. Therefore, I have started this petition to give local people a chance to show their support, with the hope of Primark acknowledging it, and possibly opening a store in our town.
