We will offer Bikram Yoga style classes. This 90 minute class and style represents a set of 26 poses with two breathing exercises in a room temperature of 105 degrees and 40% humidity. Every posture is done twice except the final posture, the spinal twist. The first set is a minute long and the second set is 30 seconds long. Conducted in a heated room, Bikram Yoga detoxifies the body through perspiration, tones the muscles and flushes every cell and organ in the body.
Our mission is to become the recognized local leader in WaHi for Bikram Yoga instruction services and classes and to give the students, whether a beginner or advance, a place to practice Bikram Yoga in a healthy environment. This will also provide our continually growing neighborhood with a community service and resources in preventing disease and promoting health. Bikram Yoga will influence people's ability to address well being, increase healthy behaviors and improve their health.
We will offer Bikram-Style Hatha Yoga. The studio will feature well-trained, professional instructors trained by Bikram himself, progressive teaching methods, a noncompetitive and encouraging atmosphere, and a beautiful spacious filled facility. Our goal is to build an extremely large base of Bikram Yoga students from the thousands of residencies in the district as well as workers that are employed by local businesses, hospitals, churches, schools and centers.
"Never too old, never too sick, never too late to do yoga and start from scratch once again." - Bikram Choudhury
Bikram Choudhury is the inventor of "Bikram Yoga", worldwide leader of hot yoga and the founder of the worldwide Yoga College of India. Bikram Yoga is a system of yoga that Bikram Choudhury synthesized from traditional Hatha Yoga. Popularized beginning in the early 1970's, Bikram's classes run exactly 90 minutes and consist of a set series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises designed to provide a challenging, invigorating, rejuvenating and effective yoga experience.
During this 90 minute class, you will work every muscle, tendon, ligament, joint and internal organs in the entire body, giving you an incredible sense of well being. Doing the 26 posture sequence that Bikram has picked up from thousands of postures from Yoga, will take care of these major systems of the human body, which include the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, skeletal and nervous systems.
The room is intentionally heated to 105 degree heat/ 40% humidity to warm your muscles and allow you to work deeper and safer. The heat also heals, helps prevent injuries and promotes sweating which flushes toxins from your body
Why 105 degrees?
Yoga changes the construction of the body from inside out, from bones to skin and from fingertips to toes. So before you change it, you have to heat it up to soften it, because a warm body is a flexible body. Then you can reshape the body any way you want. Hatha Yoga flushes away the waste products, the toxins of all the glands and organs of your body. It provides a natural irrigation of the body through the circulatory system, with the help of the respiratory system. It brings nourishments to every cell of your body so that each one can perform its function and keep your body healthy. Bikram Yoga also employs the heat to further that cleaning process: When you sweat, impurities are flushed out of the body through the skin. Practicing yoga not only increases our supplies of oxygen, but also teaches us how to use that oxygen properly - we learn to control our breath through the breathing exercises.
Bikram Yoga works by the tourniquet effect: stretching, balancing (using gravity), and creating pressure all at the same time. The blood supply in arteries and veins is being cut off, creating pressure when released, a lock gate effect is created, causing blood to rush through veins and arteries, flushing them out. Also, pressure is applied to the heart by its relative positions to the rest of the body. It has been proved and experienced by millions that these 26 postures systematically work every part of the body, to give all the internal organs, all the veins, all the ligaments, and all the muscles everything they need to maintain optimum health and maximum function.
Each component takes care of something different in the body, and yet they all work together synergistically, contributing to the success of every other one, and extending its benefits.
The amount of calories burned in one Bikram Yoga class depends on many different factors, such as proper actual weight, gender, size, body type and present body state. A 90 minute Bikram Yoga class burns at least 300-700 calories per class, with advance and more active yoga practitioners that burn between 600-1000 calories per class, In contrast to the other types of yoga classes, the heat of Bikram Yoga loosens muscles and increases the amount of calories burned during other types of yoga sessions of the same length.
The heat in the Bikram Yoga class also helps the entire body to relax, leading to a deeper stretch and helping to avoid injuries. Regular practice will normalize weight and appetite, your unhealthy cravings will diminish, improve muscle tone, digestion and respiration, as well as endocrine, lymphatic and elimination systems will begin to work harmoniously and help you enjoy vibrant good health and well-being.
The ninety minute, twenty-six posture sequence is specifically designed to stimulate each organ, gland, muscle and system of the human body, forming a comprehensive system of practical health -maintenance and disease prevention. The proper application of Bikram Yoga has been shown to consistently reverse the effects of aging, regulate metabolism, reduce the effects of stress and strain, and substantially prepares the practitioner for the next, with overall effectiveness of the series relating directly to this scientifically-comprehensive and systematic approach to be free from all diseases and always remain fit and fine.
Whatever your age, injury, or prior yoga experience (if any at all), this yoga will benefit your body and mind in ways you never imagined possible!
