Repeal the 1996 Dickey Amendment

In light of the recent Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and the subsequent CNN Town Hall that aired a week later, it occurred to me that a major and significant component of the issues brought forward was missed entirely. There was discussion of assault rifle bans, criminal background checks, mental health, and arming school teachers. The NRA spokesperson even advocated improvement to NCIC reporting. All of this could potentially help with the prevention of mass shootings and gun related deaths. But unless the CDC is allowed to thoroughly study gun violence in FULL CONTEXT without the restrictions of the Dickey Amendment on its budget to do so, there will be no way to confirm that any of these solutions would make any difference. This is really the only way to begin.
