Rid our Schools of Junk Food and Candy

Schools are not conduits for giving junk food and candy to our children. Not only is this bad for their health is is bad for learning. Parents and guardians are solely responsible for deciding what sugary foods should go into their children's bodies; not teachers or school administrators.

Our school district has a Policy on Wellness that forbids using food as a reward or punishment. It is loosely enforced.

We are asking that this Policy be updated to forbid the district from handing out any foods l that do not meet the minimum nutritional standards guiding our lunch services. Specifically, we request that teachers, staff, and administration not provide 'junk' food or candy (including gum) to our children during the school day.
