STOP PREDATORY TOW PRACTICES

There are many predatory tow practices that are occurring in New York and the municipality of New york as well with a concomitant criminal element as well is a threat to public safety and endangering innocent and unsuspecting people. This is a racket that is being managed by organized crime.

I have personally experienced the unfair and financially devastating practices of predatory towing in the City of New York and the City of Yonkers. Without warning, I have had multiple vehicles towed away, only to find myself trapped in a web of excessive fees, confusing bureaucratic processes, and questionable practices by tow truck companies. These experiences have not only cost me my automobiles but have also disrupted my life, drained my finances, and left me feeling helpless against a system that seems rigged against us.

Unregulated and predatory towing practices have become a significant issue in New York State, especially in densely populated areas where parking is already limited. Many residents, like myself, are finding that their vehicles are being towed for minor infringements or for reasons that seem unjustifiable. Towing companies exploit this power to charge exorbitant fees for towing and storage, often forcing vehicle owners to pay hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars to retrieve their property. This practice disproportionately affects those in lower-income communities, who may not have the resources to challenge these charges or pay the unexpectedly high fees.

Investigations have revealed that certain towing companies might be illegally tracking vehicles, infringing on our privacy and civil rights. This not only violates personal privacy but also raises serious concerns about how these companies operate, seemingly with little oversight.

To address this issue, we need more transparent and fair regulations around towing practices in New York State. Authorities must enact legislation that mandates reasonable towing fees, requires clear justification for tows, and provides recourse for victims of unjust towing. Furthermore, we need stricter oversight and accountability measures for towing companies to prevent collusion and ensure they are not infringing on privacy rights.

By signing this petition, you are standing up for the rights of vehicle owners across New York State. Together, we can urge lawmakers and city officials to introduce policies that protect consumers and prevent predatory towing practices from continuing unchecked. Let's work towards a fairer system that treats all New Yorkers with respect and dignity. Please sign this petition to demand change and protect our rights.

DENIAL OF BAILMENT

Although there are city memorandums speaking to the parameters around police contracted and OWNED tow yards. They operate under DBAs (doing business as) to obscure the ownership information but we have the 10k annual reports. T he tow companies are STEALING CARS AND THERE SEEMS TO BE RACKETEERING OCCURING . THE MAYORAL PUSH IS NOT CONSIDERING THE UNSCRUPLOUS AND ILLEGAL TOW procedures. THERE must be a memorandum of understanding(MOU) or agreement(MOA) or equivalent pertinent memo to outline the procedures and processes for towing and IMPORTANTLY redemption!  There must be a chain of custody receipt and so on..  There seems to be an unusually high amount of tows occurring to Caribbean peoples of all hues. There must be a CLEARLY DELINEATED PROCESS TO REDEEM your PRIVATE PROPERTY.

Please help stop this source of income for a city that is defrauding constituents at every waking opportunity.
