Demand that stray animals in Greece are protected from cruelty by the locals

There have been several reports of deliberate acts of cruelty against the ever growing population of stray dogs and cats in Zante, Greece. Innocent, gentle dogs and cats who are being fed by dedicated feeding groups are being shot, beaten, poisoned and burned by locals who seem to enjoy harming animals. The Authorities and the Mayor in particular are doing nothing at all to stop this and care only about the tourism on the Island. I would ask holidaymakers to reconsider visiting this Island until an animal welfare system is set up to help the strays and to stop the endless cruelty.
