Make Automatic Voting Registration a Federal Law

How this would work would be that individuals would provide their name, address, birthdate, and citizenship information to the DMV, the agency would automatically transmit the information to the elections division in the office of the secretary of state. Once the State's Elections Division receives qualifying voter records from the DMV, it sends postcards to each individual informing them that they will be registered to vote through AVR. The individuals will be registered automatically and can decline to be registered by signing and mailing back the postcard. The individual has 21 days to return the postcard indicating that they do not wish to be automatically registered to vote; afterward, they will be registered to vote upon confirmation of eligibility. Voter registrations are automatically updated and confirmed when information about the voter registrant—for example, an updated address—is received by the post office and shared with the secretary of state
