Since the passage of the Real I.D. Act, immigrants have been unable to apply for or renew driver licenses in the majority of states in our country. In the thirteen states and the District of Columbia, that have passed legislation that allow immigrants to take formal driver training courses, get tested, and if successful, earn a drivers permit and purchase auto insurance, road safety has improved dramatically while individuals fleeing an accident has dropped significantly allowing law enforcement to focus its resources on serious criminal activity. These states have also seen a reduction in insurance rates, accelerated economic growth and more. In addition, it provides law enforcement and other first responders with a manner in which to quickly establish the identity of individuals, allowing them to take appropriate public safety and/or life-saving action to the benefit of all!
As such, I proudly add my name to this petition and ask that you vote to pass legislation that allows immigrants to take driver training classes, get tested and if successful be issued driver permit and be allowed to purchase auto insurance.
