FDA: Say NO to Aspartame in Milk!

For three years, the dairy industry has been pushing for the right to include aspartame in products labeled "milk." Currently, the FDA only allows the "milk" label for beverages with ingredients that contain calories, such as sugar and high-fructose corn syrup. The dairy industry argues that aspartame would make their products healthier, and would help curb childhood obesity.

Children should stay fit through exercise and wholesome eating habits, not by drinking unnatural diet beverages. The long-term effects of aspartame are still uncertain, but it has been linked to cancer and diseases in rats, as well as neurological problems and retardation in babies whose mothers consumed aspartame during pregnancy. Please sign the petition to urge the FDA to say no to aspartame in milk.

To: U.S. Food And Drug Administration

We, the undersigned, are writing to address the dairy industry's intent to include aspartame in products labeled "milk." We understand that the FDA currently allows the "milk" label for beverages with ingredients that contain calories, such as sugar and high-fructose corn syrup. The dairy industry argues that aspartame would make their products healthier, and would help curb childhood obesity.

We believe children should stay fit through exercise and wholesome eating habits, not by drinking unnatural diet beverages. The long-term effects of aspartame are still uncertain, but it has been linked to cancer and diseases in rats, as well as neurological problems and retardation in babies whose mothers consumed aspartame during pregnancy. We believe it is risky to include the ingredient in products labeled "milk," which are trusted as healthy drinks for children and pregnant women. We respectfully urge you to deny the dairy industry's request to use aspartame in products labeled "milk." Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
